Color Throwdown #44 and a Prize!

It's time for another Color Throwdown, and this week I am the hostess this week!  I recently got some of the gorgeous new Wisteria designer paper from Basic Grey, so I used it as my inspiration for the colors this week.  As always, remember that you don't have to use these exact colors... just whatever you have that's close.  As a matter of fact, none of the cardstock on my card is from Stampin' Up!  Also, please note that you do not have to make only a card!  Any project is more than welcome!

For my card today, I used what is quickly becoming a favorite new image from Penny Black, the Fresh Field flowers.  I colored the flowers and leaves with Stampin' Up and Tombow markers, then cut out the image with my Nestabilities.  I thought the stamped image and the designer paper I chose out of my 6x6 pad were a great match!

Sharon Johnson has another great Stamp Simply challenge for you today, that will have you getting ready for Father's Day with plenty of time to spare!  For today's challenge, Sharon is going back to her early days of stamping.  Being the only woman in a houseful of men, Sharon often found herself early on creating more masculine cards than the beauties she creates nowadays.  So her challenge to you today is to create a masculine card... for Father's Day or for any man, anytime.  There's just one stipulation!  You have to include some "manly" string, rope, cording or knots of some sort!  Sharon has a great sample for you to see on her blog, and the other Stamp Simply designers will wow you as well...

I was short on time to create something for this challenge, so I literally did some simple stamping by CASE'ing one of my Card Buffet designs to make this quick card.  My "manly" feature is the linen thread wrapped several times around the cardstock below the lighthouse.

Card Buffet

I set up another Card Buffet at the store this week, just like the ones I had back in January and February so I thought I'd quickly share the cards that my customers are making.  I had a full house of ladies on Tuesday night, and have another full house for this coming Saturday!  Since there are so many pictures, I'm not going to list any details.  However, feel free to ask any questions in a comment and  I'll answer you as soon as I can!

Two minor notes... the "Sending you a cup of cheer" card with the coffee cup was a design idea I saw on Jan Tink's blog.  And the "You are in our prayers" card with the cross was CASE'd from Silke Ledlow on the Our Daily Bread Designs design team!

Paper Craft Planet Sketch Challenge

The Sketch Challenge today on Paper Craft Planet is being hosted by ME, so I hope you'll play along!  This sketch is based on this card that I created a few days ago with my new stamps from Taylored Expressions, but for my official challenge card today, I turned the sketch on it's side and used my beautiful new Kitchen Sink Stamps Multi-Step Tulip Garden stamps instead!

My tulip is stamped in four steps, starting with a base of SU! Cameo Coral stamped second generation.  The next layer was stamped in Cameo Coral first generation.  The third layer is SU! Ruby Red, and the fourth layer is SU! Cranberry Crisp.  The leaves were stamped in three layers starting with SU! Gable Green stamped second generation, then Certainly Celery and then Old Olive.  After cutting out the image with a long rectangle Nestabilities, I sponged Blush Blossom ink around the edges while the cardstock was still in the die.

On a side note, would you please join me in giving thanks to God?  My daughter Kaylie, who as you all know is a new driver, was involved in an accident on her way home from softball practice yesterday.  She was on one of our country roads, and rear-ended a pick-up truck that was in front of her making a left turn.  She was pretty upset, but otherwise she and a friend that was with her were uninjured.  My mind will not stop wandering to what could have happened, and while we're pretty upset at her carelessness, I'm extremely grateful to be able to still wrap my arms around her today.  Praise be to God!

2 Sketches 4 You Entries

Laura and Kazan over at the 2 Sketches 4 You blog had a design team call that closed this past weekend.  Since the call is in the past, I thought I'd share the cards I submitted.  I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope for being chosen, because I didn't see all the rules for the call, and therefore didn't follow through on one part.  Oh well... it was good to be challenged with some sketches that are a little more outside-the-box than what I'm used to!

Kitchen Sink Monday - A Dove of Peace

Greetings everyone!  It's Monday again, which brings another creation from Kitchen Sink Stamps!  This week however, we have new releases to share with you so that makes this particular Monday a little more special!  If you stop by Maria's blog, you can see some previews of the four new stamps sets being released tomorrow (Tuesday, January 6th), and you can also enter for a chance to win all four of the new sets!

The set that I have to show you is called Love Birds, except that you can plainly see, I did not make a lovey-dovey card with it today.  I unfortunately have a need for a sympathy card right now, so I thought I would use the dove from the stamp set combined with the "peace" sentiment from the 3-Step Bells set to create this card.

I stamped the dove on Bordering Blue cardstock from Stampin' Up! using the following inks for the 5 layers...

1.  SU! Whisper White craft ink
2.  Brilliance Platinum Planet ink
3.  Momento London Fog (stamped off once)
4.  Momento London Fog (stamped full-strength)
5.  Brilliance Midnight Black (inked very lightly and slightly stamped off once)

Peace on Earth

I have a couple of things to share with you today!

First of all, Char in So Cal you have until this morning at 9:00 a.m. EST to email me with your information as the winner of my blog candy!  If I don't hear from Char, I'll draw a number for a new winner!  I'd really hate to have to do that though, so Char please get in contact with me!

Second, my friend Darlene sent me this super-fun poem yesterday morning and I just have to share it with you all!  I'm supposing many of us can see ourselves as the main character in this poem!

'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or chipboard or lace?
"Or a Cricut," I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him,  "Hi Santa!" I said.
"You know....good little girls should be in their beds."
"I know I should Santa, and now I've got caught.
But I was just so excited to see what you brought."
"Well, let's take a look in this room where you work."
He shook his head quickly, and left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear...
"You've got enough crap, I'll see you next year!"

LOL  Is that not hilarious!  And how many of us can relate?

Lastly, I have a card to share with you today.  My husband asked me for a card that he could take to work for everyone to sign for the boss' Christmas gift, so I designed this more-masculine card and also entered it in the Moxie Fab World contest for this week.  It didn't turn out quite the way I envisioned... I am severely lacking in mojo the last few days!

 

This is actually a layout that I have fallen back on several times, and really like.  I enjoy doing the varied stitching around the edges, too!

Stamp Simply #65 and Stamp Simply Celebrates a Final Day

Today marks the end of the party for Stamp Simply Celebrates!  We've all had a wonderful time the last 12 days bringing you all these great Featured Projects for the holidays, and of course giving out blog candy!  There are still several contest still open for the candy, so be sure to check out Party Central at Sharon's blog for those.

Today’s challenge is to create a card with a simple layout using  JUST 2″ of designer paper.  Just Two Inches — The idea behind this challenge is to create a simple layout for a Christmas card using JUST a 2″ strip of designer paper –

• You MUST use a 2″ strip of designer paper on your card, but ONLY this one strip of paper — no more. 

• You may cut your designer paper to any length you want.

• You may border your designer paper or do scallops around it, or whatever you want.   

• Your focal image/sentiment can be any size/shape.

I chose to go for simple but elegant with my design, and had to use this beautiful sentiment that I got this year from Northwoods Rubber Stamps.  Isn't that just the perfect statement?

I inked the sentiment with Encore gold metallic ink, then lightly tapped over the gold with Momento Rhubarb Stalk ink for this two-toned effect.  The whole image was then heat-embosssed with clear powder.

Stamp Simply Celebrates Day 9!

Hard to believe but we're up to day #9 of Stamp Simply Celebrates, and the party celebrating Sharon's 1 million blog hits continues today with more fun!

 

As usual, there is some serious blog candy to be had by visiting the Million Hit Diva herself, Sharon Johnson!  Jennifer Buck also has some blog candy today, tied in with her Featured Project/Challenge!  And AJ Otto is also featuring some blog candy today, and you are going to have some serious fun trying to win this candy!
