Card Buffet

I set up another Card Buffet at the store this week, just like the ones I had back in January and February so I thought I'd quickly share the cards that my customers are making.  I had a full house of ladies on Tuesday night, and have another full house for this coming Saturday!  Since there are so many pictures, I'm not going to list any details.  However, feel free to ask any questions in a comment and  I'll answer you as soon as I can!

Two minor notes... the "Sending you a cup of cheer" card with the coffee cup was a design idea I saw on Jan Tink's blog.  And the "You are in our prayers" card with the cross was CASE'd from Silke Ledlow on the Our Daily Bread Designs design team!

Acetate Cards

Not many people are as lucky as I am to have a full-time job that's also their hobby/obsession/addiction!  I spent a good 6 hours of my day yesterday doing nothing but stamping!  Jealous?

I have a card class coming up this Tuesday, and rather than wait until the day before to design the cards, I decided to get a jump start for a change!  Novel idea, I know!  :)  So today I thought I'd show you the cards my customers will be making.  I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Poppy Bittybloom - PCP Sketch Challenge

Lynn Mercurio is hosting the Sketch Challenge on Papercraft Planet today, and created a great sketch for you to try!  Here's my card, using my new Poppy Bittybloom stamp from Stamping Bella!  I had the chance to go to Michael's today and found this new poppy paper from Autumn Leaves, so I decided I needed to buy it to go with my stamp!  So why not give this sketch a try today!  Upload your card to the Papercraft Planet gallery, and be sure to tag your photo with SK022109 so it can be added to the album with all the other cards for this sketch!

Impression Obsession Lilacs

I recently got some new stamps from Impression Obsession to use for a class at the store, so I used this pretty lilac and sentiment for a card today.  The design for this card is CASE'd from another card I made last summer.  I'm not usually one to use much purple, but I really love how this turned out.  I hope you like it, too!

*sigh*  You know what hindsight is, right?  I wish I had it.

I've been pulling my hair out for a few weeks now, planning for my Card Buffet at the store next Saturday.  I picked out this cute stamp set of apples from the Hero Arts catalog, and had some ideas for a card in my head.  I knew I wanted to use these green, yellow and red Double-Dot papers from Bo Bunny, and I knew I wanted to use Kraft cardstock.  I thought gingham ribbon would look cute, too.  So I ordered some.  I ordered 2 spools of it, so there would be plenty!  Then, earlier this week after the stamps arrived, I started playing around with design ideas.  The gingham ribbon I ordered hadn't arrived yet, so I went to my ribbon that I already had in stock to pick something out, just to make a prototype.  Well, there was a large and almost brand new spool of gingham ribbon in another color!  Why, why, why did I order the other???  So now, here's my dilemma... do I use the gingham I already have in stock (and that I like better!) or do I use the gingham I ordered (and have 2 whole spools of now!)?  I'm not going to tell you which one I like better so I don't influence you, but if you have time I'd appreciate knowing which one you like better!  Maybe I'm wrong, and you'll like the 2-spool ribbon better?

Kicked Up Christmas Cards

I guess I must have been sleepy this morning, as I titled my first post "Kicked Up Christmas Cards" and then showed you the simpler versions!  This post will show you the cards after the class was over and I "kicked 'em up a notch!" (to quote Emeril Lagassi!)

 

This first card was again inspired by a design by Cathy Indelicato.  To spruce this one up a little, I cut out the panels for the main image with long, rectangle Nestabilities, and embossed the edges (although my bad photography doesn't show it!)  I added a silver gemstone to the center of the snowflake, and some sheer dotted ribbon.

 

To dress up this next card a little bit, I added a layer of cardstock to the card base, and swiped some gold metallic ink around the edges of the designer paper panel.  I added a piece of gold mirrored cardstock behind the main image, and a row of scallops from my Threading Water punch.

 

This card doesn't look a whole lot different from the first, but if you look closely (and sorry for my blurry photo... my photography skills took a dive yesterday!) the trees are all stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder, and then were cut out and mounted to the white background.  I also embossed the white background with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder, and added an extra layer of green cardstock behind the white.

 

This last card didn't really have a whole lot of room for being kicked up.  I simply added an extra layer by making a base of green cardstock, and added an extra poinsettia!

So, I hope you like my kicked up cards!  The original versions are perfect for quick-and-easy and can be mailed economically.  These kicked-up versions are some possibilities if you need a card to be a little extra special, maybe for gift-giving.

Simple Christmas Cards

I recently had a Christmas cards class at the store, where customers could make 12 cards, three each of four different designs.  The designs were fairly simple, nothing that would be too bulky to mail or take too much time to mass-produce.  I had a really good response, and ended up having to hold a third class to accomodate more people that couldn't come the first two sessions, so I was very happy!  Here are the cards...

Caramel Apple Kit

For my New Product Showcase at the store last week, I wanted to create a few projects for displays.  When I saw this Caramel Apple Kit several weeks ago on Michelle Wooderson's blog, I knew I was going to have to create my own version of it for the Showcase.

Inside this little pail is a pretty fall apple, and a little individual serving of caramel apple dip!  YUM!  I LOVE that stuff!  We could buy that in bulk at my house this time of year!

For the pail topper, I used the Baking Stamp Ensemble from Just Rite Stampers, and to make the "Caramel Apple Kit" words, I used the small letter set.  This apple stamp from Kim Hughes' Making the Grade stamp set from Cornish Heritage Farms was perfect for this project, and the words fit perfectly inside it!

 

I used the Nestabilities to cut out the scallops and circles for the lid of the pail, and used Bazzill cardstock and papers from Scribble Scrabble.  (Sorry for the blurry picture on this one... just couldn't get the camera to cooperate with me!)

This was so fun to make, and I'm sure thankful for all the cute ideas Michelle comes up with on her blog, as this was a perfect display item on Thursday night!

Hot Cocoa Treat holder measurements

Many of you left comments or sent emails asking for measurements on this project I posted over the weekend.  I know you were probably thinking I'd never get around to it, but Ta-Dah, here it is!

Now, my packet of hot cocoa measures (approximately) 6 1/2" long by 2 5/8" wide.  You may have to adjust measurements for the size of what you choose to use, but if you can do that then almost anything goes for what you can put in here!

I cut a piece of cardstock for the folder 6 1/2" wide by 7" tall.  I scored along the short side at 3" and 3 1/2" to make the "spine" of the folder.

 

The little box to hold the cocoa packet was cut 3 1/2" wide by 2 1/2" tall.  I scored the edges on 3 sides at 1/4" and 1/2".  Then I cut away the squares at the bottom two corners, and folded up the sides to create the little box to hold the cocoa.  (See succession of photos below.  You can click on the pictures for larger views.)

     

I trimmed some 1/4" red line tape to apply to the edges of the box and adhere to the folder, then decorated as desired!

I hope this helps you out!  Remember, I got the inspiration from this design from Laurie Schmidlin, however I have no idea if my measurements and design are the same as hers.

Just Rite Hot Cocoa treat

My New Product Showcase at the store on Thursday night was a huge success, and a lot of fun!  If you'd like to see some pictures from the evening you can check out the Toyrifix blog!  I'll also be posting pictures soon of the projects that were made.

One of the things showcased Thursday night was products from Just Rite Stampers.  On Wedneday, I pulled out an old display rack and set up all the new products on it.  On the top of the display there were some slots on each side where you can insert pictures, or a logo or something.  Well, I didn't want to leave those areas the way they were because they actually had permanent logos from toy company that the display originally came from.  I wanted to get a logo that I could print off from Just Rite Stampers but that didn't work out.  So I made a phone call on Thursday morning and got to talk to the Queen of Stamp Simply, Sharon Johnson!  Sharon was so nice and agreed to let me use images of her work from her blog to add to the display and took the time to email me the pictures because I was having trouble printing directly from the blog.  So here are some pictures of how nice the display looks now, adorned with Sharon's gorgeous designs!

 

 

The display is a little more "bare" now because a lof of the items got sold out, but it has more samples on it now because of what was made during the demonstrations!

I wanted to help out a little with some ideas to display for the showcase on Thursday night, and while blog browsing last week I found some gorgeous inspiration!  Check out this sweet Sparkly Hot Cocoa Holder I found on Laurie Schmidlin's blog!  Isn't it adorable?  I just love all the sparkle she added and those sweet colors!  So I CASE'd her little folder design and came up with this!

 

As soon as I have time, I'll post measurements for anyone who wants to give this a try!  I don't know if I designed mine with quite the same measurements as Laurie's but this is what worked for me!  The papers I used are from My Mind's Eye and the cardstock is all Bazzill.  The Hot Cocoa stamp is of course, from Just Rite Stampers!  If I'd had a little more time, I would have done some paper piecing on the mug but had too many other details to attend to this past week in preparation for the showcase.

My Mom is visiting for the weekend, so I won't get much stamping done!  But I'll be around tomorrow evening to draw a winner for the blog candy, so stayed tuned!  And get your comment in here if you haven't yet to try and win!
